Time for a lighting retrofit before the DOE T12 Deadline in Julyy

A Department of Energy regulation will end the manufacture of T12 fluorescent lamps next month. This will lead to a certain shortage of T12 supplies and possible price increases. There are millions of T12 lamps currently in use as warehouse lighting in the US. There has never been a better time for a warehouse lighting retrofit for your company.

The recent issue of Buildings suggests that companies get ahead of these changes before lamp shortages become a problem. " You may be able to find replacement tubes and bulbs in the short term after they're no longer manufactured, but upgrading is inevitable" They offer five lighting retrofit tips:

1. See a sample of the energy efficient lighting in action first.
2. Look for labels- Energy Star, UL
3.Examon Control Options
4. Evaluate Retrofit Kits
5. Downsize lamp usage

The article also addresses the important area of energy efficient lighting rebates. The energy savings from lighting retrofits are substantial-in most cases more than 50 %. And the return on investment is usually less than two years. The one challenge is usually the upfront costs of purchasing and installing LED lighting. Redbird LED recently received certification for their Cardinal Linear lighting products from the DesignLights Consortium. If you are in the service area for a DLC member utility compnay you can be certain that the RedBird LEd products qualify for energy rebates.
